To improve the treatment of acute respiratory illnesses, surgery, trauma and other health emergencies, the international health organization Clinton Health Access Initiative in collaboration with Global Fund has installed an oxygen piping at the Federal Medical Centre, Ebute-Metta, Lagos State.
Mark Eddington, the Head, Grant Management, Global Fund stated at the commissioning on Tuesday that the essence of donating the oxygen is to boost healthcare delivery, expand access to care and treatment of cancer, malaria, tuberculosis, HIV/AIDS and other diseases.
“Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, it was realised that a lot of hospitals in the world had no access to oxygen, it was there we realised we need to invest and donate this oxygen to save the life of people around the world.
“It’s impressive to see the oxygen plant, oxygen cylinders, the piping being installed in Ebute-Metta Medical Centre as almost $800 million have been invested in oxygen globally and some of the facilities comes from the support of the government. We will continue to deliver lifesaving interventions to people and children who need it.”
Dr Saheed Ogume, the Head of Clinical Service, FMC Ebute Metta, shows appreciated Global Fund for their support as “Oxygen is life” as the project has help to fill the gap noticed in the care system, reduce cost and serve as a motivation to the government to improve more on healthcare.
