The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has issued a public alert about counterfeit cancer treatment drugs, specifically Phesgo 600mg/600mg/10ml, batch number C5290S20.
The alert followed a complaint from a doctor at Lagos University Teaching Hospital (LUTH-NSIA). The suspected counterfeit drug was identified through visual comparisons with genuine samples, revealing several discrepancies.
NAFDAC has instructed its zonal directors and state coordinators to remove counterfeit products from circulation and urged healthcare professionals and consumers to report any suspicions of substandard or falsified medicines.
The agency emphasized the importance of obtaining medical products from authorized and licensed suppliers and highlighted the serious health risks posed by counterfeit medicines.
