Lagos Decentralised 300 PHCs to boost Health-care – Sanwo-Olu

In order to upgrade the facilities and train more staff for better healthcare services, the Lagos State Government has decided to decentralise over 300 Primary Health Facilities (PHCs) in the state.

This was disclosed by Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu at the commissioning the Atlantic Paediatric and Multi-Specialist Hospital in Lekki.

Sanwo-Olu stated the purpose of decentralisation as a way to boost efficiency and to scale up all general hospitals where patient can have quick access to health as we currently have seven new permanent secretaries that are all medical practitioners.

He gave more highlight on the biggest paediatric hospital in the Sub-Saharan Africa currently on Construction to improve mother and child mortality rate which will be called Massey Children’s Hospital located at the Third Mainland Bridge. This hospital is built as a replicate to the old Massey Children’s Hospital which has been in existence for a 100 years located in Lagos Island.

His administration is also building the biggest Mental Health Facility that is on construction as its also an issue that we need to tackle as well, with 1,000 beds built in it and there is need to create partnership with private investors to finance the health system to enhance the healthcare services and to lessen medical tourism and brain drain through a medical competence.

He noted that the decentralisation will not only enhance efficiency and improve the quality of care but also serve as a support system to general hospitals.
