FEC approves N12bn for Diagnostic Facilities in Tertiary Institutions

The Federal Executive Council (FEC), chaired by President Bola Tinubu, has approved a budgetary estimate of N12 billion to upgrade diagnostic facilities in selected tertiary institutions across Nigeria.

The decision was announced by the Minister of Health and Social Welfare, Ali Pate, following the FEC meeting held in Abuja.

The funds will be used to procure major diagnostic equipment, including three MRI machines and two CT scanners, as well as ancillary equipment and infrastructure. The selected institutions set to benefit from this project are:

The initiative aims to improve healthcare access and enhance medical education in these institutions.

Minister Pate highlighted that the improved facilities have already started attracting patients from neighboring countries, the UK, and the US, showcasing the positive impact of the government’s commitment to healthcare infrastructure.

Additionally, the FEC ratified the African Medicines Agency (AMA) Treaty, which seeks to harmonize regulatory standards across the continent and boost access to safe, quality medicines.

This move is expected to expand Nigeria’s pharmaceutical market and support the country’s journey toward medical self-sufficiency and industrialization.
