Econimic Hardship increasing Diabetes, Hypertension – Expert

A Consultant Physician at the Enugu State University Teaching Hospital, Parklane, Professor Godwin Onyebueke, has attributed the increase in diabetes and hypertension cases to economic stress occasioned by hardship in the country.

Onyebueke, the teamleader of the outreach, stated that patients diagnosed with these diseases not aware of the conditions and many people today struggle to provide for their families, which may be a connection between the rise in diabetes and hypertension and the nation’s economic stress.

Starting the similar free outreach done at Nkpoffia Obeagu Awkunanaw, Enugu South LGA, and today Edem-Ani Hospital, Ozumba, he praised the former Vice-chancellor, University of Nigeria Nsukka, Prof Benjamin Ozumba for his outreach as one of the activities lined up to mark his retirement from civil service and 70th birthday on March 21 as a positive to the health needs of people which 500 people benefitted free of charge with drugs distributed. The former VC team of expert will be looking out to those who conducted surgeries to ensure they recover on time.

The Professor advised people to always go for medical check to know their health status irrespective of the inflation in the country.

Chief John Okanyi, the traditional ruler of the Edem-Ani Ogwugwu  Community show appreciation to Ozumba for the medical outreach done in the community as a way of giving back to the society.
