Joeboy has experienced tremendous commercial success after breaking through to the public in 2019 with his hit song “Baby,” making him one of the biggest names in Afrobeats music.
Joeboy was asked about Nigerian artists’ reluctance to collaborate with numerous songwriters on a song, a process that is more widespread in the West, by Beat FM host Osi Suave during an interview.
Osi brought up the observation that performers appear to feel that if they work with songwriters, they will lose the respect of their fans.
According to Joeboy, even if hiring songwriters is becoming less of a taboo in Nigeria, some fans continue to make fun of musicians who use songwriters. He also emphasized that, in contrast to popular belief, performing a song that has been composed by someone else requires a great deal of skill.
Joeboy has previously disclosed that he occasionally collaborated with songwriters, most notably Kamena, who he included on his “Body & Soul” sophomore album.
Joeboy revealed in the interview that he and Mr. Eazi are still on good terms after the latter departed Empawa, where he had been reading books since 2019. Joeboy declared the formation of his label Young Legend and his collaboration with the global firm Warner Music.
