Ti Olúwa Ni Ilẹ̀: Nollywood Veterans end Decades-Long Feud after Ooni’s intervention

Legendary actor Alhaji Kareem Adépọ̀jù (Bàbá Wándé) and esteemed producer/cinematographer Mr. Túndé Kèlání have put their nearly two decades of estrangement to bed.

This is sequel to the intercession of the Àrólé Odùduwà, Ọọ̀ni of Ifẹ̀, Ọọ̀ni Adéyẹyè Ẹnitàn Ògúnwùsì, CFR, Ọ̀jájá II.

The reconciliation reportedly took place on Thursday at Mr. Tunde Kelani’s residence in Abeokuta, Ogun State.

The Highly Revered Monarch, represented by a delegation, conveyed a heartfelt message through his Private Secretary, Yusuf Adewale Adetoyese. The Ọọ̀ni praised both actors and acknowledged their significant contributions to Yoruba culture through their creative endeavors.

“In my interaction with stakeholders in the industry, especially regarding adapting the story Ti Olúwa Ni Ilẹ̀ into a stage drama, I learned about the unresolved conflict between you two. As the Àrólé Odùduwà, I appeal to you to let go of any rancor for peace and progress,” part of the letter read.

Both Alhaji Kareem Adépọ̀jù and Mr. Túndé Kèlání admitted that their dispute originated from issues concerning the movie’s royalties. However, they have now resolved their differences and are keen to collaborate for the industry’s benefit.

“I am happy that the Àrólé Odùduwà & Ọọ̀ni of Ifẹ̀ took an interest in us. Despite life’s experiences, we are both alive, and I thank Almighty Allah for that. Kelani is my friend, and we will continue to work together for the growth of our cherished industry and Yorubaland,” Adépọ̀jù said.

“This call for peace is a reminder that our work is appreciated, especially by the Ọọ̀ni. Our works won’t be buried with us when we pass; I thank Kábíyèsí for this intervention and fully support the new project,” Kèlání remarked.

Ọọ̀ni Ògúnwùsì is partnering with Aroba Groove, headed by Ambassador Alfred Oladotun Taylor, to adapt the classic film Ti Olúwa Ni Ilẹ̀ into a stage play titled Aṣiyanbí: Ti Olúwa Ni Ilẹ̀.
