Popular activist Deji Adeyanju has confirmed that singer and social media sensation Darlington Okoye, known as Speed Darlington, is currently being detained by the Nigerian Police Force in Abuja.
Adeyanju, who is also a lawyer, stated that Speed Darlington was arrested in Lagos last Friday and has since been transferred to Abuja, where he remains in custody.
The arrest reportedly stemmed from a formal complaint filed by Grammy Award-winning artist Burna Boy, although specific details regarding the petition have not been disclosed. Adeyanju shared this information in a post on his X account on Tuesday, saying, “We just spent the last 30 minutes with Speed Darlington, and he narrated how he was arrested in Lagos last week, moved around, and eventually brought to Abuja. He has been in detention since then. The petition against him was written by Burna Boy, and we can confirm.”
Earlier, social media influencer Constance Nwogu raised concerns about Speed Darlington’s sudden disappearance, noting he had been unreachable for three days. In a message shared on social media on Monday, Nwogu expressed her alarm, stating, “It has come to our notice that our man Speeddarlington (Akpi) has been missing for days now (three days now).” She highlighted that his last social media post was made three days ago, a stark contrast to his usual active online presence.
Investigations reveal that Speed Darlington’s last post on his YouTube page was dated October 4, while his last Instagram activity was nearly a month ago on September 8, despite his frequent live sessions on the platform. “Up until now, no one has heard from him. We have all tried to reach him, but to no avail,” Nwogu emphasized, stressing the urgency of the situation.
While no official reason has been provided for Speed Darlington’s disappearance, Nwogu speculated it might be related to a prior video in which the artist questioned the legitimacy of Burna Boy’s Grammy award and allegedly linked him to troubled musician Sean Combs, also known as P Diddy or Puff Daddy.
Meanwhile, Burna Boy posted on X, “Who’s missing?” following Speed Darlington’s reported absence, though no direct connection has been established. Nwogu has called on the public to share any information that could assist in locating the missing entertainer, urging, “If anyone has any information, please reach out to me or share it widely.”
She assured her followers that updates will be provided as more information becomes available, stating, “We will keep everyone posted if we get something. Thank you very much.”
