The Magistrate Court sitting in Sabo, Yaba, Lagos State, on Tuesday, acquitted popular musician Abdulazeez Fashola, known as Naira Marley, in relation to the death of Ilerioluwa Aloba, better known as Mohbad.
The court’s decision was based on the legal advice issued by the Lagos State Directorate of Public Prosecution (DPP).
Court’s Ruling
Magistrate Ejiro Kubenje, who presided over the case, stated that Naira Marley had no case to answer regarding Mohbad’s death. The court also acquitted three other individuals: music promoter Samson Balogun, known as Sam Larry; Owodunni Ibrahim, also called Primeboy; and Mohbad’s former manager, Opere Babatunde.
The ruling was based on the police investigation and other attached evidence, which indicated that the four men had no involvement in Mohbad’s death.
Legal Proceedings
The state government had charged all the defendants before the court on October 6, 2024, over their alleged involvement in the death of Mohbad, who died on September 12, 2023, in Lagos under controversial circumstances.
The DPP’s advice, however, indicted the auxiliary nurse who treated Mohbad, Feyisayo Ogedengbe, along with one of Mohbad’s friends, Ayobami Sadiq.
The State’s Commissioner of Justice is set to prosecute the trio for reckless and negligent conduct in violation of Section 251 (e) of the Criminal Law, Chapter C.17, Volume 3, Laws of Lagos State, 2015.
Public Reactions
The court’s decision has sparked various reactions from the public and fans of both Naira Marley and Mohbad.
While some have expressed relief and support for the acquitted individuals, others have called for further investigations to uncover the truth behind Mohbad’s death.
