The actor Femi Brainard has addressed his observations on the realities of being a famous Nigerian living outside.
During a podcast interview, he recounted his experience with Teju Oyelakin, popularly known as Teju Babyface.

In his explanation of the benefits and drawbacks of moving abroad, Brainard emphasized that it is better to be well-liked and respected in Nigeria than to go unnoticed outside.

He added that the thought of moving overseas did not sit well with his spouse.

In their conversation, Brainard revealed that, when he drives, his Nigerian passengers in particular can’t help but stare at him in shock, wondering if he is the famous person they know.

The actor went on to say that people would come up to him just to make sure he was the well-known actor from Nigeria they had heard of.

Brainard explained that he was so broke that he went to the parking lot and started crying, adding that the bills were high and he had other things to think about, such as rent.

“Sometimes it would be so hard, I no go get Money for hand,” he remarked. I cried, na me bring this woman here. Yankee no know star o… I had to feed my family. I know this couple from the airport, the husband was like, ‘Ask him if he is Femi Brainard and I said yes. The husband didn’t know when he reached out to me and asked ‘bros what are you doing here”.

Even if Nigeria appears to be a challenging country, I would rather be a prince and a celebrity in a broken system than come here and be insignificant. Rent is still a concern for me.
