Oludipe Oluwasanmi David, popularly known as Spyro, recently disclosed the immense pressure he faces to assist fans, both online and offline.
The “Who’s Your Guy” crooner revealed that he spends over ₦15 million annually on beggars and others seeking financial help.
Spyro shared his experience on Instagram, expressing frustration over the constant demands for assistance and the lack of reciprocation.
Despite his acts of kindness, he recounted a bitter encounter where a stranger insulted him because he couldn’t give money at that moment.
“It’s really hard being a celebrity in Lagos,” Spyro wrote. “I told a guy I didn’t have anything and would see him the next day. He rained insults on me. Every day I step out of my house, I spend a minimum of ₦100k on gifts. Now let’s do the maths: let’s say I go out three times a week, that’s ₦300k per week, making ₦1.2m per month, and that’s about ₦15 million a year. Kilode.”
Spyro’s candid revelation highlights the challenges celebrities face in balancing their generosity with the expectations placed upon them.
