The story of how Nigerian singer Eedris Abdulkareem rescued a teenage UNILAG student entangled in a controversy involving sex for grades is shared.
In an interview with The Honest Bunch Podcast, the singer told the tale of how, more than 20 years ago, he happened to run across an 18-year-old student on the University of Lagos campus. He explained how his astute observation caught sight of the distraught and perplexed young woman crossing the street.

“I was at Unilag for a campus tour, and as we were leaving the performance, I noticed a female who was trying to cross the street but appeared to be disoriented and insane. She told them to park because she ran and then ran back. Upon meeting her, I introduced myself as Idris Abdul Kareem. Could you please tell me what’s going on? Speak with me. Be not afraid. I’m aware that something is off,” he started.
Then he said that to calm her down, he went to a nearby restaurant and got her some food and beverages. Abdulkareem found out that the woman had confided in him after being questioned, and that her lecturer had offered her a hotel stay in exchange for good results.

“My lecturer has given me a deadline and instructed me to come to a hotel if I want to pass my paper,” she remarked to him. I’m at a loss for what to do, as I am unable to inform my parents.

The singer thought of a plan right away. “You see all these people with us?,” he said, assuring the student that she would be safe. Remember they are soldiers, so don’t panic. He won’t ever bother you again, so unwind. Enter the room and act as though the door has been locked when you get there. Be not hesitant when you arrive. To get him to take off his clothing and leave the rest for me, just act as though you’re ready.”

Unbeknownst to the 77-year-old lecturer, the young student followed her instructions and met him at the hotel, escorted by the musician and his entourage. After five minutes of brandishing digital cameras, they stormed into the room and focused on the man, who immediately began pleading.

“I agreed not to reveal the lecturer’s identity after he pledged not to bother any girls in the future. It was only four years ago that I even destroyed the cassette. And today that little child works as a doctor in the United States,” Abdulkareem exclaimed.
