‘Drug addiction landed me in psychiatric hospital’

Crayon

Nigerian singer Charles Chibuezechukwu, known as Crayon, has revealed his past struggles with drug addiction, nearly costing him his life and leading to hospitalization in a psychiatric facility.

In a recent interview with YouTuber Korty EO, he recounted a troubling episode outside his record label’s office, where his colleague Rema came to his aid.

Crayon described how his manager noticed his alarming condition, prompting him to confess to smoking weed. He began acting erratically, walking barefoot to the Mavin studio.

He expressed gratitude that no one recorded the incident, which could have harmed his career and confidence.

At the studio gate, feeling overwhelmed, he smashed his iPhone and told friends he was tired.

“Rema drove there and carried a stick, he was ready to fight. I was lying down on Rema’s lap. Rema was like, ‘Bro, trust me, once you pass this stage, you will come out great because I feel like this is the final battle you’re about to fight,” he said.

“I could not recognise anybody but I remember that word. It was so bad I almost jumped out of a moving car. It was that crazy. It was similar to Mohbad’s situation.”

Eventually, he was taken to a psychiatric hospital in Lekki and later recovered at Don Jazzy’s home.
