“Don Jazzy Gave me His Blessings When I wanted to leave his Record Label” – Reekado Banks

When Nigerian artists quit their record labels, it’s usually due to irreconcilable conflicts.
Reekado Banks, however, is one of the exceptions to this rule, revealing that he parted ways amicably with Mavin Records.

Reekado was interrogated by the seasoned OAP as he left Mavin Records during an interview with media personality Daddy Freeze. The hitmaker stated that he finds it hard to hear assumptions that he left Mavin Records on a bad note.

“That man took me from nothing at all. I wonder why anyone would think it wasn’t amicable. The end of the contract came, I wanted to leave and he (Don Jazzy) gave me his blessings,” Reekado stated.

Reekado also addressed the custom of musicians and record labels fighting in Nigerian music and how this has given rise to rumors of a split with Mavin Records.

Reekado Banks responded to the rumors surrounding his exit by saying, “I feel like it’s a tradition in the Nigerian record label business for artists to breakout angrily from their record labels and this is being imposed on my relationship with Jazzy.”

Reekado continued by calling Don Jazzy a blessing and someone for whom he will always be appreciative.
Although the breakup of Reekado Banks with Mavin Records was amicable, nasty battles between labels and musicians are common in the Afrobeats scene.

Runtown had a well-publicized legal conflict with his label Eric Many, Brymo and Chocolate City engaged in a lengthy legal war, while Skales and his former label Baseline dragged each other to court.

The disagreement between Marlian Records and Mohbad, which came under public scrutiny in 2022—especially following the passing of the Street pop sensation—shook the business.
