Big Brother Naija ex-housemate, Doyin David has revealed that the reality show takes a toll on one’s mental health.
During her latest visit on the Morning Brief Show, she underlined the impact of the reality show on the housemate’s mental health. While appreciating the beneficial financial elements of participation in the show, she cautioned anyone who may be weak mentally
In her interview, Doyin David stated: “If I talk about finance, I can’t complain; it’s been good. The mental health element post-show, I keep stating it. If you’re not mentally grounded and you’re not sure about who you are and what type of person you are and you have concerns with your mental health, I would not suggest you go on that show.”
The reality TV personality emphasized the obstacles that housemates experience after leaving the show, stressing the extreme scrutiny and criticism they endure. David addressed the loss of freedom of speech that comes with newfound popularity, where every part of a person’s life becomes exposed to public criticism.
“As much as it may make you, it can also break you because there’s a lot of criticism about your life and everyone has an opinion about what you wear, what you do, who you date, what you say, things that average people and nobody would care about. Just realize that after you come out of the program, you no longer have freedom of speech like that,” David advised.
She concluded by highlighting that even if there are upsides and negatives to being on the show, the good outweighs the bad.
