Burna Boy

Nigerian singer and Grammy Award winner Damini Ogulu, popularly known as Burna Boy, has launched a football academy with training centres located in Lagos, Abuja, and Port Harcourt.

Infographics about the academy began circulating online on Monday. Further investigation revealed that the academy is open to young players aged 4–15, as well as older players between the ages of 16 and 21.

The academy’s vision, as stated on their website, is to “create an environment where kids can learn the fundamentals of football, combined with education, discipline, and technique, to excel in life beyond the sport.”

They also emphasize the importance of engaging parents in sports education, highlighting its significance alongside academic achievements.

The academy has partnerships with several notable football clubs, including English Premier League teams Manchester City, Tottenham Hotspur, Leicester City, and Brighton, as well as Championship side Watford.

Additionally, Scottish clubs Hearts and Hamilton are also listed as partners.

The academy’s junior team operates two centres in Lagos, specifically in Lekki and Surulere, along with locations in Abuja and Port Harcourt. Their programs run three days a week, with each session requiring two hours of mandatory training.

Although the academy only recently gained public attention, it appears to have been active for some time, as their website features results from seven friendly matches, with the team recording four wins, two losses, and one draw.
