Airtel Nigeria has announced a new partnership with Google to bring YouTube to all television sets across the country, regardless of whether they are smart or older analogue models.
This deal was signed at Airtel’s Lagos headquarters.
Under the agreement, YouTube will be integrated into Airtel Nigeria’s Smart Router, a device that combines internet connectivity with the ability to transform regular TVs into smart TVs. Users can now access YouTube directly on their TVs, offering a seamless streaming experience for movies, sports, music, and educational content.
Femi Oshinlaja, the Chief Commercial Officer of Airtel Nigeria, highlighted the significance of this partnership in transforming digital entertainment in Nigerian homes. He stated that Airtel aims to bridge the digital gap by providing affordable entertainment content. The Airtel Smart Router delivers internet services and easy access to world-class entertainment through YouTube.
Femi Adeniran, Director of Corporate Communications and Corporate Social Responsibility, added that the integration of YouTube on the Airtel Smart Router simplifies the customer experience, enhancing the way digital content is consumed at home. This partnership reflects Airtel’s commitment to creating affordable and innovative solutions that improve the digital lifestyle of its customers.
The Airtel Smart Router, priced at ₦25,000, comes with unlimited data for 30 days and makes it easier to stream movies, football matches, cartoons, music, and other forms of audio-visual entertainment for the entire family.
Olumide Balogun, West Africa Director for Google, emphasized that YouTube connects people with content they love, and this partnership makes it easier for more Nigerians to access their favorite videos right from their TVs.
Mahesh Bhalerao, Director of EMEA Product Partnerships at YouTube, reiterated this sentiment, noting that the collaboration brings high-quality, on-demand content to more homes and empowers Nigerian audiences to explore, learn, and enjoy the diverse experiences YouTube offers.
