Urine-powered Generator invented by Four Nigerian teenage girls

Four teenage girls’ have made their country proud by inventing a powered generator which can last six hours for a liter of urine.

Duro Aina Adebola, Faleke Oluwatoyin, Bello Eniola and Akindele Abiola, was at the annual event Maker faire Africa in Lagos to showcase this skills. Using urine as fuel is not a new idea to the world but this girls decided to put into actions ways they can be use for domestic activity without relying on carbon.

Adebola, a 14 year old came of with the idea after a family of five died as a result of Carbon monoxide inhale from their generator while asleep which she decided to find an alternative to source power without posing another threat to the world.

This idea was shared with her three friends who put in actions to make their dream a reality with the motivation and encouragement of their science teacher, Olaide Lawal.

The girls starts their experiment with all materials that can generate power that will be less expensive to them such as water, old car battery which consist of an electrolytic cell was suggested at first but they all encounter difficulty. After so many attempts, they came up with the use of Urine which was a success.

The Fours girls have earned both international and national award for the urine-powered generators after the exhibition.

They thanked their school, Doregos Private Academy for their funding, transportation and moral support and Lagos State government has also showed interest to fund the invention to be produce on a large scale for use in homes.
