Another advancement has been made thanks to Temitope E Odetoye, a professor of Chemical engineering at the University of Ilorin (UNILORIN) who has produced biodiesel through chicken eggshells.
The achievement was achieved through UNILORIN’s attempts to produce domestic technology that would advance the nation’s socioeconomic development. The invention was derived from various catalysts.
The Don who recently gave a speech at the 253rd inaugural lecture, indicate eggshells could be a cheap supply of catalyst for the manufacturing of biodiesel and can add value as well reduce waste in the poultry production process.
One of the key disadvantage of producing biodiesel is still its high cost compared to fossil fuel, he said.
Biofuel is fuel derived from biomass and is related to biocrude, biodiesel, bio-oil, biogas, bioethanol, biosyngas, and bio-slurry fuels.
The burning of biomass waste offers the possibility of turning trash into money, helps in cleaning the physical environment for a healthy living and will enhances employment chances for qualified specialists and engineers once it is widely use.
