UI students begin fresh protest over school fees increment

Students of the University of Ibadan, Oyo State, have launched a fresh protest following the approval of a significant increase in school fees by the institution’s governing council.

The protest began early on Friday, sparked by a fee hike that was confirmed during a council meeting on Thursday.

Reports from students indicate that the fees have increased by over 100%.

For instance, a student from the Department of Human Nutrition revealed that their fees had risen from ₦58,000 in the 2022/2023 session to ₦138,350 for the current 2023/2024 session.

Similarly, in the Department of Animal Science, students who paid ₦70,000 last session are now required to pay ₦150,000.

In response, students have boycotted classes and are enforcing a complete halt to academic activities until the fees are reduced.

Many students, especially returning ones, are reportedly unable to afford the new fees, intensifying the protest across the campus.
