The Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics (ASUP) has announced plans to commence an indefinite strike on December 2, 2024.
The decision comes after the Federal Government failed to meet their longstanding demands, which include the release of the second tranche of the NEEDS Assessment Intervention fund, implementation of the approved 25/35% salary review, and payment of accrued arrears.
ASUP’s Chairman, Comrade Abubakar J. Abdullahi, stated that the union had issued a 15-day ultimatum to the government on October 6, 2024, but no action has been taken since then.
The union believes that a strong education sector is vital for the future of the nation and cannot afford to compromise on these issues any longer.
