NECO releases external SSCE results

The National Examination Council (NECO) has released the 2024 Senior School Certificate Examination (SSCE) External results for 84,799 candidates, with 57,114 of them scoring five credits and above, including English language and Mathematics, representing 67.35 percent.

NECO also issued a stern warning that any supervisor caught involved in exam malpractice will not only be blacklisted but their names will also be circulated to other exam bodies, including the Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB).

The Registrar and Chief Executive Officer of NECO, Prof Dantani Ibrahim Wushishi, made this disclosure at the organization’s headquarters in Minna.

He stated that the total number of candidates comprised 44,227 (52.21%) male and 40,522 (47.78%) female candidates. He explained that the results were released 62 days after the last paper of a total of 29 subjects.

Wushishi disclosed that a total of 6,160 candidates were booked for various forms of malpractice, compared to 8,518 in 2023, showing a reduction of 27.7 percent. According to him, a total of seven supervisors were recommended for blacklisting for poor supervision, lateness, and for aiding and abetting during the examination.

The registrar further revealed that 14 examination centres were blacklisted for their involvement in ‘whole centre’ malpractice in nine subjects. The concerned centres are located in Ogun, Oyo, Lagos, Cross River, and Ebonyi states.

Against this backdrop, Wushishi reiterated that he would blacklist any caught supervisor and forward their name to other examination organizations, including JAMB.

He added that the move is aimed at preventing supervisors who engage in malpractice from being involved in other examinations, thereby maintaining the integrity of the examination process.
