The Federal Government is currently meeting with the members of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU).
On Wednesday, the Minister of Education, Prof. Tahir Mamman, convened a crucial meeting following threats from university lecturers to embark on a nationwide strike over unmet demands by the Federal Government.
Originally scheduled for Monday, the meeting aimed to prevent another strike and address concerns regarding security across universities.
In attendance were representatives from the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), led by Professor Emmanuel Osodeke, along with past presidents of ASUU, including Professor Biodun Ogunyemi, the Executive Secretary of the National Universities Commission, and senior officials from the Federal Ministry of Education.
During the meeting, Prof. Mamman emphasized the government’s commitment to strengthening security in the education sector and ensuring that students remain on campus.
The meeting later transitioned into a closed-door session for more in-depth discussions.
