Prof. Abiodun Adebayo, Vice-Chancellor of Covenant University, recently introduced remote e-learning platform will support the advancement of education in Africa and assist in addressing the admissions shortfall in Nigeria.
In an effort to close this gap, he said, the university obtained accreditation from the Nigeria Universities Commission to operate a distance learning program that would allow all applicants from Nigeria and throughout Africa to sign up and study at their own pace without being constrained by geography or the demanding nature of in-person instruction.
“Many people are unable to gain admission into universities,” stated Adebayo. This was brought up during our most recent policy meeting with the Joint Admission and Matriculation Board, which brought together the heads of all the universities in Abuja.
Therefore, Covenant University is welcoming everyone who might be interested in enrolling in our program by launching a distant learning e-learning platform.
“As a result of the post-COVID pandemic demand for digital studies and IT certification, we at Covenant University have only been able to admit one in five applicants to our computer science program. This indicates that any applicant who satisfies our entrance requirements but was not accepted can log into the program, which we find encouraging.
The VC stated that the college would keep working to acquire accreditation for other programs into the distance e-learning platform, but emphasized that the institution had only secured accreditation for the Computer Science program for the program.
“Only one program may be licensed at a time and within the first year of commencement due to NUC policy and regulations.
We are offering additional programs in Management and Social Science, Communication, and Business after launching a Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science.
As far as it is comfortable for us, we will accommodate more programs, stated Adebayo.
