The Taraba State University branch of the Academic Staff Union of Universities made a request to Governor Agbu Kefas on thursday to release the N1.7 billion in earned academic and promotional allowances that university staff members had been due since 2014.
The non-payment of promotion arrears and withheld salaries, according to ASUU Chairperson Dr. Garba Mbave at the Taraba State University, not only puts financial strain on members but also erodes their morale and reduces their trust in the fairness and integrity of the institution. “The circumstances to which we have been exposed possess the capacity to disturb labor peace and jeopardize the efficiency and efficacy of our personnel.
“The frustrations and unhappiness among our academic staff have only grown worse since the accumulation of these unpaid allowances since 2014.”
We confront the difficulties of financial instability and uncertainty in the absence of a pension plan for employees and we also urged the government to act decisively on the issues of unpaid earned academic allowances, withheld salaries, promotional arrears, and the construction of a perimeter fence for the university, even as it praised the governor for renovating the dorms and cutting undergraduate tuition.
