12,873 new students were admitted to the Lagos State University in Ojo, Lagos, on Wednesday for the 2023–2024 academic year.

According to Prof. Ibiyemi Olatunji-Bello, the university’s vice-chancellor, more than 50,000 people applied.

According to the News Agency of Nigeria, Prof. Adenike Boyo, the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Administration), represented Olatunji-Bello at the function.

She gave the matriculating youngsters advice on how to concentrate on their studies in order to not lose the excellent chance to attend a university.

“It is important for me to mention that LASU is a student-centred university.

“It is a place for the grooming of generational leaders.

“Our objective is to produce graduates who will be catalysts to the process of transformation of the State to a greater Lagos,” she disclosed.

She declared that sexual and gender-based violence will not be tolerated during her leadership.

“This informed our decision to establish the Directorate of Response and Preventive of Sexual and Gender-based Violence.

“Do not keep silent when you are harassed or assaulted in any manner. If you see something, say something.

“To make your stay successful and productive, show respect to your colleagues and staff in the university,” Olatunji-Bello said.

“I urge all the new students to shun anti-social behaviors such as bullying, assaults, violence, cultism, examination malpractice, indecent dressing, and sexual harassment within and outside the campus,” stated Dr. Abiodun Fatai-Abatan, dean of the Students’ Affairs Division.
