The Court of Appeal in Akure, Ondo State, has upheld the death sentence of Rahmon Adedoyin for his involvement in the killing of Timothy Adegoke, a former Master’s student of Obafemi Awolowo University, Osun State.
The court confirmed that Adedoyin was properly convicted by the High Court in Osogbo, Osun State.
However, the judge quashed the lower court’s decision on the forfeiture of Adedoyin’s property to the state government, as it had already mandated him to be responsible for the education of the deceased’s children.
Timothy Adegoke, a chartered accountant and former Master’s student of Obafemi Awolowo University, was killed in Adedoyin’s hotel after traveling to Ile-Ife to write his MBA exams.
Shortly after the judgment, Fatima Adesina, representing the state government on behalf of Femi Falana SAN, stated that the Court of Appeal upheld the conviction for various offenses, including conspiracy to kill, unlawful killing, and accessory after the fact.
“However, the Court quashed certain aspects of the decision of the trial Court, especially the decision that relates to the order of the Trial Court mandating the respondent, the convicts, to be responsible for the education of the children of the deceased Timothy Adegoke,” he added.
