Wike revokes Buhari, Akume’s Land Titles

Nyesom Wike, Minister of FCT

Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), has revoked land titles belonging to several prominent Nigerians, including former President Muhammadu Buhari, former Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN) Walter Onnoghen, and the current Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF) George Akume.

This action affects 762 land plots in the Maitama 1 District of Abuja due to unpaid Certificates of Occupancy (C-of-O) fees.

Additionally, 614 landholders have been given a two-week ultimatum to settle their outstanding Rights of Occupancy (R-of-O) fees or face similar revocations.

This enforcement is based on Section 28 of the Land Use Act of 1978, which allows authorities to withdraw land rights due to non-compliance with payment obligations.

Other notable individuals affected include former governors Rochas Okorocha and Ben Ayade, Senate Chief Whip Tahir Monguno, and several former and serving federal lawmakers.

Wike emphasized the importance of compliance with FCT regulations and stated that the government had exercised patience before taking this step.
