A leading Nigerian energy business, Seplat Energy, has announced the nomination of Udoma Udo Udoma as the company’s next Independent Non-Executive Chairman. Udoma Udo Udoma will take over from Basil Omiyi, who is set to retire on March 31, 2024.
According to the Nigerian Companies and Allied Matters Act (“CAMA”) 2020, Udoma’s nomination was approved by the Seplat Energy directors in a unanimous vote, and it will take effect on April 1, 2024.
These nominations follow the terms of the Board Succession Forward Plan, which was declared in a corporate announcement on April 25, 2023, and again on November 1, 2023, when it was revealed that Charles Okeahalam and Basil Omiyi will resign from the board on March 31, 2024.
Udoma Udo Udoma is a seasoned board administrator and a skilled lawyer. He sat on the boards of several businesses, including Unilever Nigeria Plc., Linkage Assurance Plc., and First Hydrocarbon Nigeria Limited.
He was the chairman of UAC Nigeria Plc. and Union Bank Plc, Chairman of the Nigerian Securities & Exchange and the first Chairman of the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC), Minister of Petroleum and Natural Resources, Minister of Budget and National Planning and currently the Pro-Chancellor of Akwa Ibom State University.
Additionally, Bello Rabiu has been appointed by Seplat Energy to the position of Senior Independent Non-Executive Director, beginning April 1, 2024. Charles Okeahalam will retire on March 31, 2024. He has serve as the Group Managing Director of NNPC’s Senior Technical Assistant, Group General Manager of the Corporate Planning & Strategy Division, a Pioneer Head of Material Management and Planning Officer of Frontier Exploration Services, National Petroleum Investment Management Services (NAPIMS) Division of NNPC.
