President Asíwájú Bọ́lá Ahmed Tinúbú has announced a major shake-up in the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL), removing Mele Kyari as the Group Chief Executive Officer (GCEO).
Bashir Bayo Ojulari has been appointed as his replacement, effective April 2, 2025.

- Board Restructuring: Alongside Kyari, the NNPCL Board Chairman, Pius Akinyelure, and other board members were also removed. The new 11-member board includes Ahmadu Musa Kida as the non-executive chairman.
- Ojulari’s Background: Bashir Ojulari, a seasoned petroleum engineer, previously served as the Managing Director of Shell Nigeria Exploration and Production Company (SNEPCo). He brings decades of experience in petroleum, process, and production engineering.
- Government’s Vision: President Tinúbú emphasized that the restructuring aims to enhance operational efficiency, restore investor confidence, and drive economic growth. The new board has been tasked with increasing oil production and advancing gas commercialization.
