The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has strongly criticized President Bola Tinubu, accusing him of betrayal following a significant hike in fuel prices.

In a statement signed by NLC President Joe Ajaero, the Congress expressed its dismay over the sudden increase in the pump price of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), which it described as a breach of trust.

The NLC highlighted that the agreement to accept a ₦70,000 national minimum wage was based on the understanding that fuel prices would not rise.

The Congress accused the government of breaking its promises and adopting harsh market policies that have worsened the living conditions of Nigerians.

The NLC condemned the government’s actions, including the crackdown on protesters, arrests, and the alleged overreach into the Ministry of Labour and Employment’s responsibilities.

They demanded a reversal of the fuel price hike, the release of detained protesters, and a rollback of the recent 250% increase in electricity tariffs.

The Congress pledged to stand firm against the government’s policies, promising that its leadership would meet soon to decide on the next course of action.

The NLC emphasized that it would not be intimidated by security agencies or the government’s tactics.
