Tinubu approves fund for States to tackle disasters

President Bola Tinubu has approved ₦108 billion for Nigeria’s 36 states to address flooding and other natural disasters. Vice President Kashim Shettima disclosed this on Wednesday during a meeting at the State House in Abuja.

He described the flooding situation in Maiduguri, which has displaced hundreds of thousands, as a “national calamity.”

Shettima highlighted Tinubu’s commitment to working with states, noting the recent approval of ₦3 billion for each state to tackle the challenges caused by such disasters.

He praised Speaker Abbas Tajudeen of the House of Representatives for his leadership in maintaining stability in the legislative arm, especially with many new members.

Shettima also emphasized the importance of cooperation among the executive, legislature, and judiciary for sustaining democracy in Nigeria.
