SSANU, NASU stage Protest

The Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU) and the Non-Academic Staff Union of Universities and Associated Institutions (NASU) are organizing a mass protest in Abuja today (Thursday).

The protest will begin at 8 a.m. at the Unity Fountain, with union members marching to the office of the Minister of Education, Prof. Tahir Mamman, to express their grievances.

The unions are demanding the payment of their four-month salaries, which were withheld due to their participation in the 2022 industrial action.

While the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) strike lasted eight months, SSANU and NASU were on strike for four months.

Despite President Bola Tinubu’s directive to pay the affected staff, SSANU and NASU members claim they have not received their wages, unlike ASUU members.

To press their demands, NASU and SSANU organized a nationwide protest on July 9 across all state chapters, and they are following up with today’s national protest in Abuja.

This action was announced in a circular co-signed by NASU General Secretary Peters Adeyemi and SSANU National President Mohammed Ibrahim, following a two-week ultimatum given to the Federal Government in June to meet their demands.
