Shell sues Venture Global in US court

Shell PLC has filed lawsuit against Ventures Global LNG (VGL), a United States based LNG exporter for breaching its contract to supply LNG cargoes after restricting the supply of Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) to its customers.

Due to their contract violations, Venture Global LNG and NLNG have been up against obstacles in the United States and the United Kingdom.

The NLNG breach case, which Shell Plc initially brought before US authorities, has now been taken to UK High courts in anticipation of additional litigation as Nigeria LNG is challenging the enforceability of the arbitral award’s demand order issued by the panel.

Shell Plc has intensified its conflict with Venture Global LNG while exporting more than $18 billion worth of liquefied natural gas, it accused the company of limiting supply access to it and other clients.

A letter has been sent to the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission to force Venture Global LNG to provide plant commissioning data to clarify why commercial operation were delayed. Despite having signed long-term contracts with Ventures Global LNG, Shell and other European corporations claim they never received their gas shipments.

Having cost them billions in lost profit, Nigeria LNG was held to be breach in contract by failing to deliver to 19 cargoes as the shipment were supposed to be delivered between from October 2020 and October 2021.

The three main owners of Nigeria LNG Ltd. are Eni, Total, and Shell.
