Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos

The “Eko Cares” Initiative, a social intervention program designed to reduce the burden on residents amid economic hardship, has been launched by Babajide Sango-Olu, Governor of Lagos State.

To drive the initiatives, the governor established a non-partisan Special Dispensation Advisory Council comprising notable Nigerians as religious authorities, youth advocates, opposition party leaders and human rights advocates to help monitor the events.

“Eko Cares,” Ounje Eko market initiative, which is being unveiled today, is an aggregate of all the measures designed to relief suffering of our most vulnerable residents with no support as some of the foodstuffs will be distributed to vulnerable people which include rice, garri, beans, tomatoes, eggs, bread, among others. A total of 300,000 to 500,000 households are expected to benefit from the programme, beneficiaries that cut across 20 Local Government Areas, 37 Local Council Development Areas, LCDAs, of the state.”

Speaking, Mr Gbenga Omotoso, the Commissioner for Information and Strategy described the event as a significant moment in the life of the Sanwo-Olu administration, a preference for honoring his word ever since taking office in May 2019.

“This administration has touched the lives of every resident who requires public transportation, seeks medical care, works in the public service, and feeds from the agricultural food items sold in Lagos State.”

For the sixth week in a row, residents have been flocking Sunday Markets to purchase variety of goods, taking advantage of an extraordinary 25% discount on all food items.
