Ramadan: Jigawa Gov’t Approves ₦2.8bn For Feeding, ₦1.1bn for Emergency Foodstuffs

In fulfilment of its feeding programme intended to provide meals for poor and vulnerable persons in the state during the Islamic month of Ramadan, the Jigawa State Government has set aside ₦2.83 billion.

This was revealed in a statement by the state’s Commissioner for Information, Sagir Musa, who said the programme will be implemented at 609 feeding centres, with a focus on providing three different food items to 182,700 poor and vulnerable people daily.

The feeding programme would be implemented for three weeks and approximately 3.8 million vulnerable persons would benefit from it throughout the Ramadan period, according to the statement.

The Commissioner disclosed that the decisions were taken during the Jigawa State Executive Council meeting held on Wednesday, and that the programme was aimed at alleviating the untold hardship caused by the economic situation of the country.

To satisfy the people of Jigawa, ₦1.125bn was allocated for emergency procurement of additional rice and spaghetti to ensure adequate food supply across the state.

Additionally, it was revealed that there will be dedicated feeding centres to be established at each of the state’s 10 tertiary institutions.
