Oyo to commence Minimum Wage payment

Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State has announced that his administration will begin paying the ₦70,000 minimum wage once the issue of consequential salary adjustments is resolved.

Additionally, he extended the ₦25,000 wage award to workers and the ₦15,000 award to pensioners for another three months, noting that these payments will continue until negotiations on the consequential adjustments are concluded.

Speaking during the 2024 World Teachers’ Day celebration at the NUT (ENDWELL) Model College Sports Complex in Ibadan, the governor acknowledged teachers’ significant contributions to the state and their support during the last election.

He emphasized his administration’s commitment to prioritizing teachers’ welfare and addressing the educational infrastructure gap, promising a minimum of ₦10 billion annually towards education intervention projects.

Makinde further assured that his government will employ more teachers and improve the learning environment. He also commissioned a block of 10 classrooms at the NUT Model School and reiterated his administration’s dedication to upgrading inner roads within the Owode Housing Estate.

NUT State Chairman, Raji Ismail, expressed gratitude for the governor’s achievements in education and his efforts toward teachers’ welfare, including career progression, regular salary payments, and healthcare insurance.
