Oyo implements new ₦80,000 Minimum Wage

Sèyí Mákindé, Governor of Oyo State

The Sèyí Mákindé-led Oyo State Government, on Friday, paid a total of ₦12 billion to state workers.

This was made known by Dotun Oyelade, the Commissioner for Information and Orientation, who said this payment fulfills Governor Seyi Makinde’s promise of an ₦80,000 minimum wage for state workers starting January 1, 2025.

Workers on Grade Levels I to VI now enjoy a minimum increment of ₦50,000, while those on Grade Level 17 see their salaries increase by over ₦180,000. Pensioners also benefit from this comprehensive welfare package, with a minimum pension of ₦25,000 and a 33 percent pension increment for over 40,000 retirees.

Additionally, the state government has abolished the ₦4,000 fee for retirement forms to ease financial pressure on those planning to retire. This change will put nearly ₦20 million back into the pockets of about 4,500 soon-to-retire workers.
