Oyetola, UN seal partnership for marine resource development

The United Nations’ offer of assistance for the development of marine resources in Nigeria territorial waters has been accepted by the Adegboyega Oyetola, Honorable Minister of Marine and Blue Economy.

The Minister accepted the offer when Mohamed Malick, the newly appointed UN Resident Coordinator in Nigeria and a representative of the UN Secretary General, visited the Ministry in Abuja.

Oyetola gave the UN delegate assurances that Nigeria is a willing and dedicated partner for the establishment of the Marine and Blue Economy ecosystem which comprises of research, biodiversity, fishery, development of technology, energy renewal etc. with a better use can helps to grow economy, improve life’s and create jobs while maintaining the ecosystem.

He stated the effort the Ministry’s are putting to boost the marine space for safety and better security pointing out that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s establishment of the Federal Ministry of Marine and Blue Economy is evidence of this.

The New UN Resident Coordinator applauded Nigerians on the creation of the Marine and Blue Economy Ministry as a wake up call for Africa, and the sub-region of Nigeria to make a positive impact on the environment, create jobs for the youth, and stimulate the economy if appropriately managed.
