OPay launches ‘Nightguard’ feature to bolster Financial Security

Leading financial technology company, OPay, has introduced a groundbreaking security feature known as Nightguard, designed to offer enhanced protection for customers’ funds, especially during vulnerable hours.

The launch comes in response to a rising trend in fraudulent financial activities.

In a statement issued on Monday, OPay highlighted that financial institutions reported 11,472 fraud cases in Nigeria during the first quarter of 2024, emphasizing the need for advanced security measures to safeguard customers’ funds.

The Nightguard feature, a first-of-its-kind in the financial sector, enables users to set a secure timeframe between 11:00 pm and 7:00 am where any transfer attempts will require additional identity verification, such as facial recognition.

This innovation aims to prevent unauthorized access during periods when users might be more vulnerable, such as while sleeping or during late-night outings.

OPay’s CEO, Mr. Dauda Gotring, expressed the firm’s commitment to customer security, stating, “The Nightguard feature represents a significant advancement in Nigeria’s mobile payment landscape, offering users a robust tool to secure their financial transactions. OPay is dedicated to empowering users with control over their finances, ensuring they can protect their funds with confidence.”

The introduction of Nightguard demonstrates OPay’s continuous efforts to enhance security, ensuring customers can rest assured knowing their accounts are protected during the night.

This unique feature is expected to attract new users to the OPay platform, particularly those concerned about phone hacks and financial security.
