Okonjo-Iweala to contest 2nd term in office

Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, Director-General, World Trade Organization (WTO)

World Trade Organization (WTO) Director-General Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala has confirmed her intention to seek another four-year term, aiming to complete the “unfinished business” from her first mandate.

In her current tenure, Okonjo-Iweala has prioritized key initiatives such as ending harmful fisheries subsidies, advancing global agriculture negotiations, reforming the WTO’s dispute resolution system, and promoting decarbonized trade.

With her current term set to expire on August 31, 2025, she hopes to secure consensus from WTO members for a second term without opposition.

Officially, she has until November to formalize her candidacy.
