The Hausa community of the Alubarika Rice Farmers Cluster in Magboro, Ogun State, has denied claims that the Ogun State government has not supported their rice farming efforts.
They clarified that the government’s assistance has been crucial to their success.
Speaking to journalists, the leader of the Hausa rice farmers, Zabarmawa, originally from Kebbi State, emphasized that a recent report misquoted him, stating that the government hijacked the credit for their work.
He explained that the state government had consistently supported the farmers by covering 50% of the costs for tractors, fertilizers, and other necessary farming materials, with the farmers paying the remaining 50%.
Additionally, during the harvest, the government provided 65% of the cost of harvesters, while the farmers contributed 35%.
Zabarmawa dismissed allegations that he claimed ownership of the harvesters, confirming that they were provided by the government through the service provider, Young Agro Services Enterprise. He also called for continued government support to further alleviate hunger.
The Chairman of the Alubarika Cluster Farmers, Salam Adelowo, and the CEO of Young Agro Services, Ajibola Johnson, echoed Zabarmawa’s sentiments, affirming that the government’s assistance has been vital.
They highlighted that the Ogun State Economic Transformation Programme facilitated much of the support, and the government’s commitment has led to plans for expansion of the farm and further infrastructure improvements.
