The National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) has announced the imminent launch of a General Multipurpose Card (GMPC) aimed at promoting economic and financial inclusion in Nigeria.
This new card will integrate digital identity with financial transactions, giving Nigerians easier access to various services and financial systems.
The GMPC will be linked to the National Identification Number (NIN), allowing users to perform transactions such as paying bills, accessing government services, and making purchases. The card will also support offline transactions, making it accessible even in areas with limited internet connectivity.
NIMC’s Director-General, Dr. Abisoye Coker-Odusote, emphasized that the card is part of the government’s Renewed Hope Agenda and aims to address social and economic challenges by providing secure and verifiable identification.
The initiative is expected to bring millions of unbanked Nigerians into the digital financial system, enhancing transparency and efficiency in government disbursements.
