The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has announced that the country’s electricity generation reached a record high of 5,543.20 megawatts on Friday, February 14, 2025.
This new peak surpassed the previous record of 5,478.73 MW recorded on February 13, 2025.
In addition to the new peak generation, Nigeria also achieved its highest-ever Maximum Daily Energy of 125,159.48 megawatt-hours (MWH), exceeding the previous record of 121,674.88 MWH set on February 7, 2025, by 3,484.60 MWH. TCN confirmed that the increased generation was successfully transmitted to distribution companies for onward supply to consumers.
Despite this milestone, Nigeria’s power sector continues to face persistent challenges, including inadequate electricity supply, infrastructure deficits, and financial constraints.
