Nigerians Spend Billions Importing Technicians, Minister laments

Uche Nnaji, Minister of Innovation, Science and Technology was a visitor at the popular Computer Village Ikeja, Lagos where he revealed that billions of dollars expended yearly by Nigeria to bring in skilled technicians to the country.

With the presence of all traders and technicians including the President of Computer Village Traders Union, Anthony Nwakaeze, the Minister lamented on the lack of qualified craftsmen and technicians to meet up or match the standard of the international skilled technicians.

He stated that the country is always at loss when competing for jobs in multinational companies in and outside the country. He made example of the Dangote Refinery which gives out most welding works to imported foreigners who are certified and well qualified to do the job.

Nnaji spoke on behalf of President Bola Tinubu said that the administration is working to solve the issue of underemployment and unemployment in the country. He revealed that the launching of the “National Welding Policy” in December was also a step in equipping welding practices to get the necessary skills and certifications to meet the international standard and for a better job opportunities.

Nwakaeze shows appreciation to the Minister for coming to the traders, technicians and other concern parties in the tech sector for empowering and creating jobs for Nigerians.
