A Libyan driver was apprehended on Tuesday in the Bishr area of Libya for attempting to smuggle six undocumented female migrants from Nigeria.
The arrest occurred during a routine police patrol that intercepted the vehicle and detained the driver.
Migrant Rescue Watch, an organization that monitors migrant activities, reported that the driver tried to evade arrest by falsely claiming that the women were his family members.
However, the authorities quickly uncovered the deception, leading to the arrest of both the driver and the women.
All individuals involved have been transferred to the Bishr Police Department for further legal proceedings as the investigation continues.
In a statement, the organization noted, “Libya 05.08.24 – Police patrols arrested in Bishr area a Libyan driver for an attempted smuggling of 6 undocumented female migrants of Nigerian nationality.
