The Revenue Mobilisation Allocation and Fiscal Commission (RMAFC) has disclosed that each of the 109 senators in Nigeria’s Senate earns a monthly salary and allowances totaling ₦1,063,860.
The breakdown includes:

RMAFC Chairman, M. B. Shehu, issued this clarification following comments made by former Senator Shehu Sani, who claimed that each senator receives a monthly running cost of ₦13.5 million, in addition to a monthly salary of ₦750,000.
Shehu explained that the RMAFC does not have the constitutional authority to enforce the proper implementation of the remuneration package for lawmakers, a gap that the National Assembly is currently addressing. He also clarified that while some allowances are paid regularly with the basic salary, others are non-regular and are disbursed as needed.
For instance, Furniture Allowance (₦6,079,200) and Severance Gratuity (₦6,079,200) are paid once per tenure, while Vehicle Allowance (₦8,105,600) is optional and considered a loan that must be repaid before the senator leaves office.
Furthermore, Shehu noted that apart from top officials like the President, Vice President, Senate President, and Speaker of the House of Representatives, all other public and legislative officers are no longer provided with housing.
