Mr. Ewaoche Benjamin Obe, a former governorship candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC) in the 2023 Benue State election, has reportedly been evicted from his Abuja home after his wife, Christiana Obe, allegedly used the property as collateral for a loan.
The house, located in Sagwari Layout, Dutse, in the Bwari Area Council of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), was built by Obe.
The couple, who hail from Ogbadibo Local Government Area of Benue State, have been married since 2006. The eviction occurred on Wednesday, September 25, 2024, while Obe was en route to Benue State. He received a call informing him that security operatives had invaded his home and started the eviction process.
Upon returning to Abuja, Obe was handed court documents indicating that the house had been confiscated due to an outstanding loan taken by his wife. Obe, however, claimed he was never notified about the loan or served any court papers prior to the eviction. His property was reportedly strewn across the street as military and police officers supervised the eviction.
Obe expressed frustration, stating, “She has done her worst. This is a house I built with my hard-earned money.” He also revealed that his wife had taken their son to an undisclosed location before the incident and had removed some items from the house, including air conditioners.
Family members have expressed disbelief, claiming that Obe had supported Christiana’s education and career, and they questioned how such an act could happen without his knowledge.
They also raised concerns about the legitimacy of the court papers and called for an investigation into the officers involved in the eviction.
When reached for comment, Christiana declined to speak, stating, “I am not under any obligation to speak to anyone.”
