President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has said that Nigeria must not choose to rely on foreign donations to tackle its economic hardship.
Tinubu disclosed this on Wednesday at a Joint session with the National Assembly to mark his first year in office and the 25th anniversary of the Fourth Republic.
The Commander-in-Chief said no amount of aid coming from foreign countries can take Nigeria out of the woods.
“You sang out the latest national anthem, ‘Nigeria, we hail thee’. This is our diversity, representing all characters and how we blend to be brothers and sisters,” he said.
“Nobody, no aid, no other institution or personality will help us unless we do it ourselves.
“No number of aid coming from foreign countries or any other nation can do it. They (foreign nations) take care of themselves first. Let us work together to build our nation, not only for us but for generations yet unborn”, he added.
In the session, the President made known his intention of bringing the 2024 Supplementary (Appropriation) Budget to the National Assembly for approval.
