The National Bureau of Statistics (NBS), said Taraba, Lagos, and Benue have reported the highest prices for liquefied petroleum gas (LPG), commonly known as cooking gas, in Nigeria.
The NBS revealed that the average price for refilling a 5kg LPG cylinder increased by 44.62% year-on-year, reaching N7,000 in December 2024, compared to N4,962.87 in December 2023. These rising cooking gas prices, along with increases in electricity and fuel costs, contributed to Nigeria’s inflation rate reaching 34.80% in December 2024, as reported by the NBS.
This data highlights the growing cost of living in Nigeria, despite efforts by the Central Bank of Nigeria and other fiscal agencies to address inflation.
